The Shalonda Poole Foundation

The Shalonda Poole Foundation aims to educate and connect our community’s youth with vital resources that enhance overall safety, provide impactful mentorship, and support abuse prevention.

A story to never be forgotten.

Shalonda Poole was born on October 19th, 1982. Tragically , her life was cut short when on July 22,1990, she was abducted from her family’s back porch in the Hampton Homes Community in Greensboro, NC. A search party was quickly formed to find the whereabouts of this 7 year old, who happened to be a twin to her sister Shonda. The following day, July 23, 1990, Shalonda’s body was found in a secluded area behind a local elementary school. The investigation to find her assailant continued for two years, until 1992, when the case became classified as a ‘Cold Case’. In 2007, the case reopened with the developments in forensic technology. At last, a lead developed for the man who kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered Shalonda Poole. In January 2014, Detective A. R. Hinson of the Greensboro Police Department arrested Donald Ferguson in Spartanburg, SC. Finally, after 24 agonizing years, Ferguson is serving 2 life sentences. With this closure, the Poole family moves to a place of advocacy, with the creation of the Shalonda Poole Foundation, INC. The Foundation was established to SUPPORT families that have experienced a similar tragedy, and to PREVENT child sexual abuse and child abduction through EDUCATION and Awareness.
